The 11 inch screen is very small, but that is the idea. I really love this hugely portable tiny machine. It was also very easy to set up and any thing you need to know can be found on the 'help' button.
I have had PC's for as long as I can remember - mainly laptops and mainly 13" or less. Have gone from dell latitudes to expensive sony vaio's and back again. I can honestly say this is the best machine I've ever used, the SSD makes it lightning quick and can handle most things I throw at it, even photo editing. I also have a 2011 Macbook Pro from work but the Air seems way faster due to the SSD.
The build is pretty bomb proof, sat on it with the screen open and not a mark. You can also hook it up to a large monitor 27" thunderbolt display (or other) and it handles it very easily. The speed for such a small machine is amazing.
If you can afford the extra, I would by-pass the iPad - with the 11" Air there are very few advantages to an iPad unless you like to play games. The Air is just as portable and you don't have to struggle typing.
I've had many machines but this one is without doubt the best. Who needs an iPad when you have a Mac with 11" screen; answer = no one. If you havent tried a Mac then do it now!!
It's so much easier to use and manoeuvre on planes. If you fly a lot get the 11-inch; you will thank me.
Although screen real estate is limited, you can use apps on full screen mode, and use 4-finger swiping to RAPIDLY move between apps.
For home use, you can always hook it up to a monitor, such as LG E2351VR-BN 23 inch 11.9mm Slim LED LCD Full HD Monitor (16:9, 5MS, 5M:1, VGA, HDMI, DVI-D).
I love the solid-state flash storage on this machine. Everything is so fast.
Even though there's only 4 GB of RAM, which you CAN'T upgrade after purchase, it's still blazing. I mean, really blazing! Spinning hard drives drag a system down; it doesn't matter how fast the processor is.
Make sure you buy Apple Care - it's worth it.
Be careful when using it in public. It is attractive to thieves and muggers.
A limitation is that you do only get a meagre 64GB of storage. I rely on Google drive and Dropbox. I don't think this MacBook Air is suited for video editing; there just isn't enough space.

Love it, love it!!! Always buy the unlimited, global tuition package from Apple which allows one-to-one tuition for as many times as you like for a whole year. Mac's are the best, don't even think of buying anything else. They are light, slimline and slot into a handbag if necessary. Fast and fabulous - my new best friend.
This was a16th Birthday gift for my daughter & she is absolutely delighted with it. Excellent value for money, searched other places bt this was by far the cheapest but still with great specs.
