A nice cheap laptop, great keyboard and screen, seems well-made, been using for 3+ weeks now. 8mb memory, so good for running a virtual machine on - and as previous reviewers have commented various Linux distros work well... seems so to me too ( (k)ubuntu 12.04 so far). Supplied Windows 7 works nicely as well. Not yet seen issues re. build quality or performance as per some reviewers, will update if I do. Get one - send it back if no good, in my experience Amazon excellent for returns of no-like / dodgy bits of kit.

Ordered on the 16th of July at 11pm, and arrived on the 18th at 11am. Delivery only took 36 hours which is a record for me on amazon, and wasn't expecting this incredible machine until Friday at the earliest.

The Laptop itself looks and feels like a expensive laptop with its solid keyboard and quality carbon fibre styled lid. For £330 pounds you can't go wrong when you look at the specifications, with 8gb of ram and a decent processor this laptop is extremely fast and is the quickest i have ever had. Before this laptop i had a Sony Vaio which lasted me 6 years before it finally gave up, and got me through college and two degrees. I realize that technology has advanced in those 6 years, but wasn't expecting this when my Sony Vaio cost me twice the price and was less than half the quality of this Asus.

I didn't know to much about Asus as a brand, but quickly found out that they use all their own technology and don't borrow from other companies. In fact they specialize in being the manufacturers for Dell and Sony which is reassuring when deciding to choose this laptop. For over a week i looked all over the internet at reviews, and found them to be positive. The only drawbacks which people have mentions is the sound isn't loud, but i find it's more than adequate and also the fact that the laptop makes next to no noise means you can hear it clearly. The sound can easily be fixed by purchasing some cheap speakers online which is the cheapest way for a person who is on a budget like me. The webcam is good enough for msn and skype which is all i would ever need it for :-) and really see it as a attached bonus so didn't expect great things.

I could go on all day about how great this laptop is, but trust me that for this price you won't find anything better at the moment and it will be a excellent addition.

There has been some confusion abut this item. It has 2 USB ports, 1 USB3 and 1 USB2.
The Hard drive is 500Gigs,however, Asus partition the drive so that the "C" drive, which has the Windows 7 operating system, has 200Gigs allocated and the "D" drive, described as the data drive, has 300Gigs allocated, so the sum total of the 2 partitions is 500 Gigabits.
I dual-booted Linux Ubuntu 12.04 to mine, Asus could not say if this was a good idea as they did not know if Ubuntu 12.04 would be able to find drivers for the motherboard.
Ubuntu 12.04 loaded, the computer placed it on the "D" drive and there are no drivers problems.
One just selects if Ubuntu or Windows 7 is wanted, at start-up.
USB ports, Asus suggested that several cables attached to a notebook computer, needing connectors all around a computer case, is not a good idea, I bought a 10-port USB2 hub from Amazon, which has an international power supply, so now there is 1 USB3 port and 10 USB2 ports available.
VLC is a multi-region DVD player, this Open-Source player will load OK to Windows 7
For home use or student use, the X54C Asus notebook computer is ideal, fast enough for business use as well.
My e-mails to Asus were answered promptly and honestly, overall, definitely a 5-star item.

This laptop is absolutely brilliant for the price. I personally only really need it for general/light use, but it does perform excellently. They keyboard is very ergonomic and is good for lots of typing (students or writers, seriously consider). It's a nice big screen - the definition when watching movies is very good for a laptop.

So far i have only come across one downside and that is the sound. The speakers aren't great, but you can easily plug in your earphones or some speakers and that's problem solved!

It's quick, it's quiet and it's reliable. What more do you need?

An excellent laptop with 8Gb RAM and 500 Gb hard drive sufficient for most storage needs - although I have used the bulk of the hard drive to store archived music and photos!

Easy to get started and performed as expected with its fast processor and wireless modem. I haven't used the built in camera much, but the quality appears to be acceptable on Skype.

For the price, this has been a very successful purchase and at least as good value and quality as my former favourite Acer computer.

Supplied and delivered with the usual efficiency from Amazon.

After reading a bewildering amount of reviews of netbooks/laptops/ultrabooks/tablets etc.. I went for this Asus. It has performed extremely well as a full size laptop and the web browsing experience has been faultless. The wifi has been the most impressive feature so far..after abandoning wifi may years ago, it seems to have improved a lot. The screens adjustable angle and size is excellent.. the ability to zoom up the size of every webpage with the touchpad is just what I was hoping for as I enter the years of failing eyesight. Its true the built in speakers leave a lot to be desired, but, the sound is there and headphones solve that problem, and the same with the webcam.
After installing compatible Firewall/Antivirus and Chrome its been a pleasure... good balance and weight, after a week or two, you get to understand battery life/battery saving.
Very impressed by my first laptop experience, long may it continue.

So far I haven't found anything that makes me sorry that I plunged in a bought it. There are a few niggles of course but they're outweighed by the positives. I don't like the glossy screen but this seems to be the norm for laptops in this price range, having said that the screen is easy on the eyes and even long periods of use aren't tiring. I wish the power supply cable entry was on the back and the USB sockets were towards the rear of the keyboard rather than the front as I prefer to use a mouse and the power input would be annoying if the user was left-handed.

The palm rest stays very cool, which is a great plus, and the battery life is about 2.5 hours which is more than adequate for me. The operating system runs very slickly and boot-up and shut-down happen quickly. I would recommend this laptop as a good quality general use machine that will fulfil most needs.

I received this laptop this morning, on time, and there's not much more than I can say than this is a great laptop at an impeccable price, it's speedy, fun & entertaining with some hidden, cool nifty features such as face recognition login. Would DEFINITELY recommend to a friend!
