This is my first Mac after spending the last 15 years using Windows. was really worried about 1. spending nearly £1000 on a laptop and 2. switching to iOS. Why did I worry best choice I have made when picking a Laptop. The operating system takes a while to get use to but you will get the hang of it, the build quality is amazing as you would expect for a £1000 laptop. It came well packaged from Amazon so no need to worry about your laptop getting damaged in the post. I know you can get better spec laptops for less money but I don't like the new Windows 8 and to be honest this is a solid laptop that looks amazing and will last for many years to come, so if you have spare cash and are looking for a new laptop treat yourself and get this Laptop you will not regret it.

Before you read this review, two things are worth pointing out.

Firstly, before I bought this Laptop, I had only ever used a Windows computer. And secondly, the price tag is there for a reason. It's because it's worth every penny.

I used Windows to it's maximum potential, and there is nothing wrong with Windows, but for years I felt as if something was missing...And please forgive me for saying this, but I have found what was missing.

::POSITIVES::

Apple is not lying when it says that this laptop is 'not just an ordinary laptop'. It really isn't. And that is the prime difference I found with Windows, they always seemed "dull", and were often too concerned with simply getting the job done, without the experience being pleasurable for the laptop user.

Firstly, the specs speak for themselves; An Intel Dual Core i5 (Ivy Bridge), with a 2.5GHz processor, with a hefty 4GB (I upgraded to 8GB via crucial.com), and a massive 500GB HD Drive, and a beautiful display with exceptional Graphics. HD camera and an impressive 7 hour battery too. Yes it's true that you can get a Windows computer with the same specs for £350/400 cheaper, BUT, that's just for the same specs, a laptop is much more than specs ;-)

The design trumps any PC I have yet to come across. It's beautiful feel and the aluminum unibody crossed with the black keyboard and surrounding screen is easy on the eye whenever I pick it up.

The OS however is what makes the Mac. Watching Windows attempt to move towards Mac over the years (With a similar Mac dock in Windows 7) is easily understood. But Windows is far off ever competing with Lion or any MAC OS. The touchpad gestures and the ability to configure them, means that you will not need to use a mouse ever again. Simply things, such as switching from programs, or fast multi-tasking is made slick and simple. The ability to create more than one desktop is so useful too, as I can move across to it by simply swiping three fingers left or right on the touchpad.

I have had this computer for nearly 6 weeks now, and I have experienced nothing but speed, slickness, and exceptional performance all round.

Also, the free applications that come with the Mac are incredible, and something that you will never find on a Windows computer.

Finally for the positives. There so many great things about this Laptop, and I have recently upgraded to the Mountain Lion OS, and this integrates amazingly if you have an iPhone.

::NEGATIVES::

Okay, so despite the positives, the price tag still remains high. This is one negative if you are tight for cash. But as an investment, and as a much more for filling experience, I think it can be made into a positive by a stretch.

Dashboard: The Dashboard in Lion (and still Mountain Lion) is quite useless in my personal opinion. I think its a waste of RAM and space, so I got rid of it in Terminal....

MICROSOFT OFFICE: Office became a problem since the entire country uses it, so I needed it, and got it online for £40. Which again is a stretch, but that personally was the only "major" negative.

::CONCLUSION::

Despite all the negatives, and despite myself pondering whether to buy a Mac for about a year, it is a must buy if you need a new laptop which is amazing.

It's fun to use, and despite getting bored of all my windows PCs, Laptops etc, I look forward to getting on my Mac everyday.

I bought this laptop with much the same fear as everyone else. Should I buy a Mac over a windows computer? Could I adapt to a Mac? I took the plunge. On opening the box there was little in there but the necessary stuff. I must say this machine is sleek and beautiful to look at. It has an exterior that appears like it can handle a few knocks and bumps. When I turned on the computer it asked a few things of me and then it was up and running. I found getting used to the trackpad a bit tricky to start with, but the handy thing is that you can set it to how you want it. Once I'd practiced a bit it worked like a dream. Slowly but surely I was getting used to how the whole thing works. The Wifi is great making surfing a breeze and DVDs play to a high resolution. Email notifications are just as smooth as the iPhone. I was little disappointed that iphone apps do not transfer over to the Macbook, but perhaps that was just my ignorance. Equally the App store is more business based for the Macbook than the Iphone or iPad app store. Of course like all devices the itunes of previous machines takes some copying on a usb to transfer over, which is a bit awkward. If you have an iphone the iMessage and calendar synced perfectly to the macbook. The iPhoto is a good photo app and perfectly adequate for snazzing up your pics. All in all its an elegant experience to use this machine. One reviewer stated that windows does what you want it to do, but a Mac is enjoyable every time you use it. I would agree with this. Its a joy to to turn on every night, like now typing this. i recommend this product. It took a couple of weeks to come, but it was worth the wait.

looks amazing, feels amazing, is solid and shiny. the os is a dream to work with and the customer support is a godsend. only thing that i would say is a negative is the lack of ram, if your buying one you'll need to upgrade it to 8GB of ram, but whatever you do don't buy it from apple themselves, they charge around £200 for £40's worth of RAM. no need to worry about viri or unexplained hiccups, once you switch from windows to mac you'll wonder why you and so many others ever bothered with the piece of crap that is windows. if your going to spend hundreds of pounds on a laptop you might as well pay the thousand for a macbook pro as the mental anguish it'll save you is priceless. too many plus points to even begin mentioning. and for any of you technophobes out there, this is not complicated to work unlike windows, just click or drag.

Ive had it for a week now and all i can say is thats its a true masterpiece. I was a little worried at first because I don't have a lot of experience with os.x and windows has always been second nature to me after many years of using windows. For anybody that feels like switching from windows to apple let me tell you that it took me a couple of days to get used to this operating system but now I love it. The trackpad on the Macbook Pro is easy to use and after you learn all the gestures to use the trackpad you will see that this is a great way to use your computer. The computer itself is very well built and the keyboard is great to type on for a long period of time.

As per most of the reviews on here, I had only ever used Windows based laptops (my current laptop has an I3 processor and its spec can be described as a mid range laptop...ish!) etc and I wanted something a bit different. So I opted for a Macbook Pro for a change, not enough words to describe what an amazing slim/sleek, machine this is and every bit worth the expensive price. I opted for the Pro due to the cd/dvd drive and the fact it has a large 500GB HD. I would recommend to others, you won't regret it as the high price is worth it! Buy one :-)

An Incredible Device, 11 April 2013

I took the plunge on a MacBook pro after becoming a little disillusioned with Windows 8. I will admit to being quite anti-Apple for some time - I thought they were for those more interested in design and aesthetics, rather than functionality. I began looking at them more and more when it became quite clear that Microsoft was gearing its products to touch interface. It took some months of research and digging around until I bit the bullet and went for it.

It felt like a big step. However, I need to reassure anyone reading this that Mac OS X is nearer to the old Windows experience than Windows 8. It's all reassuringly straightforward, while the more you use it, the more you become aware of the dazzling array of customisation options on offer. I have had the MacBook for less than a week and I already feel very much at home. It really is a very powerful operating system but one that you can instantly use and fell at ease with.

As for the MacBook itself, it is a wonderful product. It is built remarkably well and feels robust. It has all the ports you need, plus you get the added bonus of a DVD drive. Furthermore, the non-Retina MacBook Pro is upgradable: the components are not soldered in like the top-of-the-line versions. So, if you need to put more memory in or add a new hard disk, you can do so in the future.

The great thing about the MacBook - and possibly the thing justifying its price tag - is how the software and hardware work together seamlessly. I upgraded the memory through the Mac Store (to 8GB) and the machine boots up in no time at all. It shuts down incredibly quickly, too. The glass trackpad is a delight to use and integrates with the operating system perfectly. The gestures you can learn are very useful.

Overall, I would implore you to forget any doubts you might have. The MacBook Pro and OS X are a match made in heaven. If you can afford it, then make the switch - it's in no way traumatic and, ultimately, you're getting an exceptional product.

I finally bit the bullet and bought this instead of a new Windows laptop when the old one became unusable. The last time I was on a Mac was 15 years ago so it's taking some getting used to where everything is and the shortcuts etc but I'm getting there after a few days.

This is a quality product that feels and looks substantial, the software is in my opinion superior to Windows, which I still have to use at work through the day and when I come home and go on the Mac it's certainly an improvement.

One minor gripe is that it's an american keyboard, so the @ and a few other symbols are in the wrong place, but you soon get used to it.

Get one!

Having previously decided to make the move to Mac, about 5 years ago, somewhat disappointed to have my 15 Macbook crash/pack-up on me, so decided to go for the Mac again. This new Macbook laptop is good, nice machine to use, very happy and the 13 is a bit more compact. I did deliberate between the Macbook Air 13, having seen one working now; I think it might have been quicker for me? Anyway, happy with my purchase and especially with the good price for Amazon.
Should add, Amazon are brilliant, quick delivery and good price for that too!
