So here I am typing this review on my new Acer V3-571!!
The generous I3 processor backed up with a sturdy 4gb of ram for a decent amount of 'grunt' keeps this laptop running very smoothly, powerful and with a very clear and defined resolution screen allows for HD videos and films to be streamed / played with ease (even on my rather slow network).
It can even handle games very well, whilst playing a few simulators it managed to run on high graphics settings whilst maintaining a smooth frame rate, it was so close to handling games in the 'ultra' graphics setting, I was never expecting it to but it did surprisingly well and it doesn't even get hot suggesting a very good fan / cooling system.
Windows 8 runs great with the machine, keyboard is lovely to type with and the overall build quality and aesthetics are very good indeed.
Oh and for the price, you cant really argue with that.

Set up was so simple and fast, I am just a user not a techy!
Windows 8 is very different from other windows but I simply downloaded and printed off... 60 Windows 8 tips tricks and secrets from techtrader pro... simple and clear steps and I am now working away quite well and I really like windows 8
If you want a good looking machine with excellent apps and software get this one
Bought the 500GB version (Core 5 with 6GB RAM). It was preloaded with Windows 8 which was not brilliant .. BUT ... I downloaded a free copy of Linux Mint 64 v 15 OLIVIA cinnamon and saved it to a DVD ISO disk. Next I bought an SSD (64GB) and inside the unit I removed the existing HDD with its caddy (put it to one side for a few minutes) .. inserted the SSD where the original disk was (did not need the caddy) and then powered up the machine (press F2 to bring up BIOS )disabled secure boot and then rebooted machine from DVD. This installed Linux MINT onto the SSD (you have to press the screen brightness up key as for some reason it defaults to DARK setting)... Eventually when Linux had installed to the SSD I then powered down the machine and then put the orginal HDD with Caddy in the second HDD slot inside the machine.
Rebooted it .. about 5 seconds later the machine is up and running and I have Linux on the 64GB SSD running at a blistering speed and also have full access to the original HDD as a large file store. Windows 8 is still there so if I do want WIndows 8 I simply reboot use F2 to renable secure UEFI boot stuff and then its just like the original as delivered.
I never bother with windows 8 now as Linux has Libre Office plus it supports BBC iPlayer and YouTube flash.... and there are lots of free Linux Apps plus also the Google Chrome apps (chrome browser).
Machine never crashes and I can have loads of web windows open etc..
Boots up in about 5 seconds...
Battery power lasts for 2-3 hours
screen is a nice 1600 x 900 so almost HD...
A good solid well made PC with a nice keyboard.
Mine was on special offer for £399 so I got a real bargain.
Ubuntu also works if you prefer that .. same issue with needing to manually brighten the screen using the function key on the keyboard. It is only when it boots though. Not an issue coming out of suspend or hibernate.

Runs Star Wars: The Old Republic and Dawn of War 2 on the "High" setting if that's any help.
Windows 8 is a bit... Glitchy, but the hardware is sound.
Recommend it.
