An exceptional and quality high end laptop, 23 July 2013

I bought this laptop a few days ago and I am thoroughly impressed with it. It delivers in almost every department. This review will probably read like I'm some sales rep from Samsung (I'm honestly not!) but it's a really good machine.

The screen is superb. A high pixel density means you have to get pretty close to it to even see the pixels, from the distance you'd use it from normally everything is crisp and bright. The touch screen performs exceptionally and once you've gotten to grips with Windows 8 it runs like a charm (not pun intended). When Windows 8.1 comes out it'll be even better, but for now don't buy into the naysayers - once you learn the basics the new OS works brilliantly on this machine.

Performance is great as you'd expect from the specs. The dedicated graphics means this laptop performs well with games like Skyrim (which integrated Intel graphics always struggle with unless you make a number of unsatisfactory allowances) which I have played on High graphics settings and full resolution and it has run smoothly with other apps running in the background too. Video looks lovely and the speakers are exceptionally good for a laptop, far from the tinny and flat sound of the laptop speakers of the last decade. The camera isn't amazing but it's as good as it needs to be and it'll do the job for Skype and taking avatar pictures etc. And of course the fairly ubiquitous software that I have now installed such Microsoft Office 2013 runs well although I find the touchpad better for Excel (perhaps I just need to learn how to do things in touch with this program though). The touch pad has left and right clicks built into it and you can make use of a number of handy gestures. The 8GB of RAM should be more than enough unless you're going to be running some seriously resource intensive simulations or something! Even then there's space to install another 8GB on top of that.

It's a little annoying that you're stuck with a rather slow HDD but it keeps the price down, ups the storage, and can be replaced with a SSD easily enough should you wish to do so (there's a few guides online, very straight forward if you know how a computers works!) and that would no doubt improve the performance more.

If bloatware bothers you you'll probably be a bit annoyed with some of pre-installed apps like Norton, but of course many can be uninstalled or hidden away should you want to. A few, like SW Update, are vital, others like Fresh Paint aren't but are still a lot of fun and you may find a use for them. If you're an Android phone owner you'll really appreciate Sidesync which allows you to control your phone from your laptop and makes interaction between the two fairly simple and intuitive (drag and drop files etc) from what I've seen. Plug your phone into your laptop and soon you'll be sending texts without having to touch your phone. Copy a piece of text using your mouse from your phone and then paste it straight into a Word document on your laptop. It's a wonderful piece of software I am looking forward to using this feature with my next phone - go have a look at it on YOutube to see how it works.

The build quality of the laptop is great: a combination of plastic and brushed aluminium give it the feel of a premium piece of hardware (which, despite being significantly cheaper than equivalent OSX running machines, it is). The keyboard is good and automatically lights up in a dark room.

If you're looking for an all round machine capable of delivering productivity and and entertainment and you're looking for something a bit more than web browsing, Angry Birds and Microsoft Office, you won't regret buying this machine.

A true powerhouse. Very good performance, great screen and better specs than any Apple Product around. Runs a Little hot at standby
